Habits Make the World Go Round

Habits are the things we do every day without even thinking about it. Over and over each day we do the same things.

I turn my alarm off, take my medicine, drink some water, and stretch as I get out of bed.

I don't have to think about those 4 things. They simply happen.

This is the power habits have in our life!

I recently read The Miracle Morning, and rested a little while on this statement:
Considering that our habits create our life, there is arguably no single skill that is more important for you to learn and master than controlling your habits.

The author adds this shortly after, "If you don’t control your habits, your habits will control you."

We will do what we've always done until we choose to do something different.

That is until our desire for change is greater than the comfort of what we have been doing, we won't see progress.

We've got to be women who don't take the easy road out but are willing to do the hard work necessary to build the kind of life we want.

If you don't like something about your life right now, look at your habits and see what needs to change.

Now, it's not easy to change our habits, because it's in our nature, but it is possible with some strategies!

Here are 3 tips for building new habits:

1. Make it easy to track.

Don't just say, "I want to read more." Instead say, "I want to read for 10 minutes every day." Make it measurable. Make it specific. That way you can track it and see your progress.

2. Make it simple.

Don't shoot too high here. Keep it simple and realistic. If you don't currently have a reading habit, don't try to read 30 minutes a day. Start with 10 minutes. Build from that.

Also, don't try to make 5 new habits all at once. Just do one thing at a time.

3. Make a plan.

When will you accomplish this habit? It is best to do it at the same time and in the same place. This will help the habit stick better.

I hope those simple tips help you build your habits to create the life you want!

What kind of habits might you want to build? Here are some ideas:
  • Waking up early
  • Starting your day with a glass of water
  • Prayer
  • Meditation
  • Daily walk
  • Flossing your teeth
  • Reading your Bible
  • Eating more vegetables
  • Putting your phone away at set times
  • Daily reading

I have seen over and over again the power of habits in my own life. It truly is amazing when you think about it.

What we do everyday makes a difference. It adds up. So let's be purposeful in what we do.

Here's to making habits that matter!
