February Goals

This month's Powersheets Tending List.


January for me went by quickly and slowly. Isn't it weird how that can happen? We dove back into our routines pretty smoothly after the holidays and sickness and made great progress at school this month. But yet, I did struggle with some depression toward the middle of the month and then it just dragged on until that last week when I made some more progress.

Despite all this, I am reminded that this time of year overall just kind of sucks. The sun doesn't shine as much and there is still a whole lot of school to cover.

So what are we to do when we start feeling that completely normal slump???

We find ways to settle in and function well despite the hard. 

That may look like grabbing a book and comfy blanket more than normal. Maybe drinking more hot chocolate or tea or coffee. Reading aloud to the children more instead of pulling out the workbooks.

Whatever it looks like for you, I'd encourage you to pursue the simple pleasures that will get us through the next couple of cold and dreary months.

My 2020 goals can be found here for reference, and here are my specific goals for February:

Daily Goals

  • Up by 7:30 | I'm on my way to making progress on this goal! This is my main priority right now. I want to start my day on purpose.
  • Drink 3 water bottles | I've got a tall tumbler that I keep by me and my goal this month is going to be to drink at least 3 of them of water each day.

Weekly Goals

  • Spend time with the kids individually | This is important to me because I want to cultivate strong and meaningful relationships with my children. This is quality individual time.
  • Family Fun/Bucket List | I want to create a family culture of fun! This helps me get there. Plus it helps get through these hard months. We've made a winter bucket list and I'm hoping to make some progress on it this month.
  • Move my body | Whether it is a walk around the block or attending a class at the YMCA, I need to move my body. I'm starting with once a week with the end in mind to increase this goal as I build it into a habit.
  • Read Memory-Making Mom | My goal is to pick up this book at least once a week and read through it over the next month or so. So far it's been so good.
  • Listen to a homeschool podcast | I'm hoping that this will help me as I seek to rediscover the joy of homeschooling.

Monthly Goals

  • Develop better morning routine | Hopefully, in developing this better routine it will make getting up easier too!
  • Read 2 chapters of The Storm-Tossed Family | I am going to start this one off slowly. I have a feeling I will want to think on the words more than most books I read.
  • Plan next year's homeschool | By this I mean I want to decide on our path and curriculum for next year. This will help me with the next goal.
  • Make tax return plan with Michael | This will be the year we get mostly out of debt (minus our van and house)! Our tax return will help. We also buy our homeschool curriculum with our tax return. Which is why I need to plan it out now.
  • Get our taxes done | We've already got our appointment scheduled, so we're already on track to meet this goal!
  • Have a date with Michael | It's been a while since we've had a date. But I'm excited to get back at it this month. And we are even thinking it will be on Valentine's Day!
