April Goals

This month's Powersheets Tending List.

There is a lot of fear and anxiety going around these days. I feel it too. Although life hasn't changed drastically for us, I still feel the pull toward those negative feelings.

This month I want to refocus my energy on peace. I know that peace is always possible, it doesn't have to be tied to our circumstances.

This Corrie Ten Boom quote struck me:

Jesus did not promise to change the circumstances around us. He promised great peace and pure joy to those who would learn to believe that God actually controls all things.

This coronavirus didn't come by surprise to God. He is still in control and on His throne. Therefore, He is worthy of my trust and faith.

I can embrace peace when I sit and think about these thoughts and let them soak in my heart.

My 2020 goals can be found here for reference, and here are my specific goals for April:

Daily Goals

  • No Phone 9-1 | This is something I've been loosely trying this year, although I had been trying 9-2. However, I like to listen to audiobooks and podcasts in the afternoon, so I'm moving it back to 9-1. This month I finally decided to add it to my goals because I think it is that important. Now, I still use my phone for texting and calling people, if needed. However, my goal is to be off of it as much as possible during that time window. The hope is that in doing so I can be more present and engaged.
  • Up by 7:30 | I have shifted my thinking on this goal. It is really important for me to be up by 7:30 on school days. When we aren't doing school, it just isn't as important to me. Therefore, I hope to accomplish this goal 4 times a week, on the days we are doing school.
  • Drink 3 water bottles | I really hit a good spot the second half of last month on this goal. I hope to keep it going!
  • Daily Liturgy Podcast | This is a new-to-me podcast. I've been trying to remember where I learned of it, and I simply cannot recall. However, it has been so encouraging to me. I want to get in the practice of listening to it each day.

Weekly Goals

  • Call Someone | In this new culture of social distancing, I want to be intentional to reach out and connect with people.
  • Move my body | I made great progress here last month and hope to continue!
  • Family Fun/Bucket List | We have our spring bucket list compiled and hope to make our way through it in an effort to spend time together.
  • Spend time with the kids individually | I made great progress here last month as well, I'd love to continue!
  • Listen to a homeschool podcast | This has become an encouraging part of my week. I shared here a list of the podcasts I'm listening to.

Monthly Goals

  • Have a date with Michael | Although our dates look different these days, we still want to prioritize spending time together.
  • Read 2 chapters of The Storm-Tossed Family | I am taking this book slow and steady.
  • Finish 12 Ways Your Phone is Changing You | Just started this last week through our library eBook system. I'm eager to read it!
  • Finish Boundaries | I've been "reading" this one on audiobook for so long. It's been good, but I'm ready to be done as well.
  • Celebrate Kyle's Birthday | Our youngest is turning 8 this month and we are super excited about it! We keep Birthdays pretty simple, so he's not disappointed or anything about it just being family and a special meal.
