August in Review

Toward the end of each month, I post a review of my goals, what I'm currently reading, a homeschool update, YouTube videos from that month, as well as other tidbits of information. I hope you like these monthly posts, they are usually well received. Let me know if you'd like to see other information in this roundup!

August Goals

You can find all of my 2020 goals here. Here are my August goals with updates:
  • Daily: Drink 3 water bottles | I really struggled with my daily goals this month. I'm not even sure what happened, except that I lost my motivation to stick to our new eating plan and make healthy choices. I'm not proud of it. But it happened.
  • Daily: Eat Healthy | See above.
  • Weekly: Move my body two times | In the same breath, this goal did not happen this month either. I am working on a way to incorporate more movement into my life. But it didn't happen this month.
  • Weekly: Family Fun or Bucket List | We were able to get this done 3 out of 4 weeks. So I consider that a victory!
  • Weekly: Spend time with each child individually | I only missed one week for one child. So a big win for this goal!
  • Weekly: Listen to a homeschool podcast | I struggled to get back into the habit of this goal. I was still able to accomplish it half of the time though. And I truly do see a difference in my joy and spirit when I listen in to a podcast each week.
  • Monthly: Have a date with Michael | We moved back to an at-home date getting take out this month. But it was still a fun time! It even included cheesecake.
  • Monthly: Finish The Call of the Wild and Free | I was able to do this goal. I really enjoyed the book even though the beginning was not what I expected.
  • Monthly: Read Teaching from Rest | I didn't get to this. But I will push it over to next month and hopefully read it during our break week coming up.
  • Monthly: YouTube/Blog Brainstorm Session | I had a successful brainstorm session and hope to push out more content this coming month on YouTube each week as well as occasionally on this site too!

Currently Reading

  • Every Body Matters | I took a break with this one while reading Don't Overthink It from the library. But I'm excited to dive back in because I am really enjoying it!
  • The Lazy Genius Way | I really enjoy Kendra's presence online and think I am going to love this book. I got it from the library. So, I will need to read it quickly.

Homeschool News

  • One more week until our break! I'm so excited that we started school when we did, even though it was difficult, because now we are rounding out our 6th week this week and our break week is just upon us!
  • My littles are continuing to make progress with their reading. That's right! Slow and steady pays off and they are slowly but surely reading better!
  • We shifted our ideal start time. I did this because I'm trying to add a morning walk in before school. I shifted our start time from 9:00 am to 9:30 am. This does push our school day back some (ending most days around 1 pm) and has us eating lunch later. But it hasn't really been a problem because I do offer a mid-morning snack.

YouTube Videos

My Favorite Things

  • The seasonal drink from Chick-fil-a. They have simply mastered a refreshing drink over the summer! This year's flavor is Mango Passion Tea Lemonade. It is so good!
  • A short trip to visit family. We really wanted the kids to see their newest cousin and made a quick trip to make it happen. I love any chance I get to visit my sister and her family!
  • Not a favorite thing: an ER trip as pictured above. My daughter hurt her ankle and we were worried she had a fracture. Praise God she did not! But she was on crutches for about a week to help her ankle feel better.
