September in Review

Toward the end of each month, I post a review of my goals, what I'm currently reading, a homeschool update, YouTube videos from that month, as well as other tidbits of information. I hope you like these monthly posts, they are usually well received. Let me know if you'd like to see other information in this roundup!

September Goals

You can find all of my 2020 goals here. Here are my September goals with updates:
  • Daily: Word Before World | This goal was so good for me. I achieved it most days. So I'm very happy with my progress.
  • Weekly: Move my body | Because of our new daily walk habit, I've been having no problem moving my body!
  • Weekly: Family Fun or Bucket List | We did this every week but one. I call that a win!
  • Weekly: Spend time with each child individually | I missed one week with one child, but otherwise another great month spending time with my kiddos.
  • Weekly: Listen to a homeschool podcast | I missed one week, but this goal is just so good. So I press on! Progress over perfection.
  • Weekly: Deep clean something | I did this each week except one as well. And I'm very happy with the things that I was able to clean and declutter.
  • Monthly: Have a date with Michael | Unfortunately we did not get to have a date this month. But hopefully next month we can get back on track.
  • Monthly: YouTube/Blog Brainstorm Session | I did this last night, so yay!
  • Monthly: Make fall bucket list | This was really fun to do. You can see our list here.
  • Monthly: Read "The Lazy Genius Way" | Got this one from the library, so it was a quick read. But oh so good!
  • Monthly: Read "Teaching from Rest" | Another quick read, but this time because it's so short. But again, so good for me.

Currently Reading

  • Every Body Matters | Other books keep crowding my book reading attention, but I am still enjoying this book when I pick it up.
  • Adore | I found this book on sale on kindle and snagged it right up. I've had my eye on it for a while. I'm only one chapter in, but am looking forward to reading it.
  • Be the Bridge | This will have to be a quick read because it's from the library. I'm listening as I read looking to expand my understanding.

Homeschool News

  • We started listening to a podcast at breakfast and an audiobook at lunch. This has made meals much more enjoyable for me because there is less bickering and such. We listen to The Daily Liturgy Podcast at lunch and we are listening to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone at lunch. Because everybody wants to linger at the lunch table longer, we also have started coloring more. So much so that I had to go out and buy some more advanced adult-style coloring books for the kids. We are all enjoying this new addition to our day.
  • We started a morning walk habit. This was the goal in shifting our start time, which I shared about last month. Finally, after our first break a few weeks ago, we started our new habit of morning walks.
  • We are currently "in" South America. We've traveled to the USA, Mexico, and Canada. And now we are "visiting" Brazil. The kids especially love to add a new flag sticker to their passports when we start studying a new country. You can learn more about our curriculum here.
  • Not quite homeschool, but sort of: we started a weekly nature walk back up. It has been very enjoyable! I just need to be sure to plan where we are going to go each week.

YouTube Videos

My Favorite Things

  • Cooler weather. I don't think I'm alone there. I love wearing a sweater and my slippers around the house. Plus hot chocolate with the kids is a huge bonus!
  • Candles. They just make me feel all cozy and really bring an air of relaxation to the house.
  • Instagram. It is my favorite social media platform. I just love it. I've been trying to do more Stories on there, sharing more. So, be sure to find me there if we aren't connected.
