December in Review

Toward the end of each month, I post a review of my goals, what I'm currently reading, a homeschool update, YouTube videos from that month, as well as other tidbits of information. I hope you like these monthly posts, they are usually well received. Let me know if you'd like to see other information in this roundup!

December Goals

You can find all of my 2020 goals here. Here are my December goals with updates. I will say from the beginning that this month was weird. We dealt with some family stuff the second half of the month that had me struggling emotionally and not really motivated to work on my goals and being purposeful. I was doing my best to maintain and function.

  • Daily: Word Before World | This goal is growing well and sustained me the second half of the month.
  • Daily: Read | This goal struggled. I only accomplished it twice! Twice!!! I can hardly believe it.
  • Daily: 2 Water Tumblers | This goal was another struggle.
  • Daily: Advent Reading | I made it through my Advent book for this year. And it was encouraging to me.
  • Daily: Write the Word | I started strong but then fizzled out the second half of the month.
  • Weekly: Family Fun or Bucket List | We managed to do this each week despite the hardship we faced in the second half of the month.
  • Weekly: Spend time with each child individually | I did as well as I could on this goal this month. It wasn't a huge struggle, but I didn't accomplish it each week for each child
  • Weekly: Homeschool Encouragement | This goal was thrown out the window this month. And I could sense it as my stamina for homeschooling struggled leading up to Christmas.
  • Weekly: Publish new content online | Here was another goal that struggled the second half of the month.
  • Monthly: YouTube/Blog Brainstorm Session | This did not happen.
  • Monthly: Poetry Tea Time | We are loving this time together! So this was an easy goal to accomplish.
  • Monthly: Finish "Treasuring God in Our Traditions" | This did not happen since I struggled to find the time and motivation to read during the day this month. I'm quite disappointed about it, honestly.
  • Monthly: Send out Christmas cards | I got this one done pretty early month. So yay!!!
  • Monthly: Attend Cultivate Your Year Live hosted by Cultivate What Matters | This was an easy and great decision. I went into the day struggling, to be honest. But this event helped pull me up out of a funk and really find my way moving forward into 2021.
  • Monthly: Wrap presents early | I got this one done and it felt great!
  • Monthly: Make winter bucket list | Got this one done too! And we have even done a few things on it already!
  • Monthly: Celebrate Christmas | Although it looked different, we had a good day.
  • Monthly: Usher in 2021 with grace | This new year came different than I expected, but I think I entered it with a hopeful expectation and ready to see what God has in store.
  • Monthly: Baking Day | This is a Christmas Eve tradition and it did happen! Again, differently than in the past. But I accomplished it still and it was a successful and good day.

Homeschool News

  • We struggled leading up to Christmas. I actually ended up ending a little earlier than expected and started our break sooner because we were simply ready.
  • We simplified school between Christmas and New Year's Day. I still wanted to do some school, since I had planned to jump back into our 4th term that week. But instead, we took a more gentle approach to ease back into school.

YouTube Videos

  • Quick YouTube Update | In this short video I share a little update about my posting schedule. Here are the cliff notes: I'm not going to post every week anymore. And I'm taking some time off.

My Favorite Things

  • FaceTiming with my sister. This is a sustaining thing for me this year.
  • Animal Crossing. We bought this game for my son for Christmas and I am loving it too! I moved onto the island and am enjoying playing along with my son. It has been a nice bonding moment.
